BLUE ZONES LIFESTYLE
Dan Buettner; a National Geographic Explorer, was the first to coin the term after investigating the longevity of the people of Okinawa, Japan. His goal was to find other communities with high longevity and a high rate of centenarians. Along with longevity they, also embodied a high quality of life and were free from chronic disease and frailty. There are five regions that stood out as clear outliers and labeled as a Blue Zone. These locations are; Loma Linda, California; Nicoya, Costa Rica; Sardinia, Italy; Iraria, Greece;and Okinawa, Japan. After being studied by anthropologists, demographers and researchers there came about a list of common lifestyle characteristics that were the common thread to their longevity and labeled as the Power 9.
